About Acupuncture Therapy

Acupuncture is an essential part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is based on the theory that energy flows throughout the body along channels. Each channel is associated with an organ, tendons and muscles. The treatment included very fine needles inserted into various energy points of the body

Conditions in which acupuncture has been shown to be effective:

  • Musculoskeletal conditions: muscle pain, sprains, acute muscle spasms, arthritis, fibromyalgia, tension headaches, sinus pain, repetitive stress disorders, TMJD.
  • Neurological conditions: post stroke recovery, peripheral neuropathy.
  • Gastrointestinal conditions: nausea, diarrhea, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, ulcers.
  • Other conditions: chronic fatigue syndrome, asthma, depression, anxiety, allergies and as a supportive therapy during cancer treatment.

Johanes Van Es

"I was first exposed to acupuncture while living in South Korea in the late 90's. Upon returning to the US I decided to study acupuncture. I graduated in 2004 from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and have been working at MCMC since 2005. With regard to the general public I treat mostly pain, this can be acute or chronic musculo-skeletal, i.e. repetitive motion injuries, low back pain, neck or shoulder pain, etc. I also frequently treat headaches, allergies and Menopausal Syndrome. I also frequently use Chinese herbs and medicines to speed the recovery process."
